Team Nigeria has concluded its campaign at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games with a commendable seventh place finish on the overall medals table, emerging as the highest ranked African nation after an impressive performance across several sporting events.
The Nigerian contingent amassed 24 medals, comprising 10 gold, seven silver and seven bronze, to secure seventh position behind Australia, England, Canada, India, Scotland and New Zealand.
Australia topped the medals standings with a dominant haul of 171 medals, including 70 gold, 45 silver and 56 bronze. England finished second with 110 medals, while Canada claimed third place with 62 medals. India and host nation Scotland each won 39 medals, with India edging Scotland on the strength of its superior gold medal tally. New Zealand completed the top six with 36 medals.
Nigeria’s medal tally was enough to finish ahead of Jamaica, which also secured 10 gold medals but placed eighth after recording fewer silver medals, with four silver and five bronze medals.
The performance also saw Nigeria emerge as Africa’s most successful nation at the Games, finishing ahead of South Africa, Kenya, Mauritius and Cameroon on the final medals table.
Team Nigeria’s campaign was highlighted by outstanding performances in athletics, weightlifting, wrestling and para sports, with the country’s athletes producing several memorable moments and podium finishes throughout the competition.
The seventh place finish further reinforces Nigeria’s reputation as one of Africa’s leading sporting nations, reflecting the country’s growing strength and consistency on the Commonwealth Games stage.
