The streets of Ejigbo Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Lagos State, came alive yesterday as the Executive Chairman, Aare Taoreed Adebayo Taiwo (TAT), officially declared open the Ejigbo edition of Lagos Street Soccer 3.0, in a colourful ceremony that attracted council leaders, political stakeholders, party members and hundreds of sports enthusiasts.
The opening ceremony witnessed an impressive turnout of the council’s leadership and residents, reflecting widespread community interest in grassroots football and its potential to promote unity, youth engagement and social interaction. Among those in attendance were the Senior Special Assistant to the Lagos State Governor on Grassroots Sports Development, Adebanji Adeoye, the Vice Chairman of Ejigbo LCDA, the Secretary to the Local Government (SLG), the APC Chairman, political leaders, party members and other stakeholders who gathered to lend their support to the initiative.

The tournament, which will be held across the political wards in Ejigbo LCDA, is designed to bring football closer to the people while providing opportunities for residents, particularly young people, to participate in sporting activities and showcase their talents.
Beyond the competition for goals and trophies, Lagos Street Soccer 3.0 seeks to harness the unifying power of sports to strengthen community bonds across ethnic, religious and social divides. By bringing residents together through football, the initiative offers a platform for friendship, healthy rivalry, youth participation and a shared sense of belonging.
The enthusiastic turnout at the opening ceremony underscored the place of grassroots sports in community development and the importance of creating accessible platforms through which young people can engage positively with their communities.

The participation of political leaders and community stakeholders also highlighted the role of collective support in sustaining sporting initiatives at the local level. As the tournament moves across the wards, residents will have opportunities to participate, support their teams and celebrate the sporting talents within their communities.
For Ejigbo LCDA, the tournament represents more than a football competition. It is an opportunity to bring people together, encourage active youth participation and reinforce the values of unity, inclusion and peaceful coexistence.
With the tournament now officially open, attention turns to the matches ahead as participating teams prepare to compete for honours and supporters look forward to an exciting display of grassroots football.

As the games begin across Ejigbo’s political wards, the message is clear: football can unite communities, inspire young people and create shared moments of pride.
Lagos Street Soccer 3.0 – Ejigbo Edition is underway, and the community is already relishing the action.
