Former Super Falcons goalkeeper has shared news of a joyful milestone in her family, announcing that her younger sister has given birth to a set of quadruplets after years of waiting for a child.
Dede made the announcement on her Instagram page on Sunday, expressing excitement over the arrival of the four babies — two boys and two girls. She described the development as “proof that delay is not denial,” noting that years of prayers and hope had culminated in what she called “four miracles.”
In her post, the retired international celebrated what she termed an overwhelming blessing, saying God had “overdelivered” by granting the family four children at once.
Amid speculation on social media suggesting that Dede herself was the mother of the quadruplets, the former goalkeeper issued a clarification in a follow-up post on Monday. She stated that her younger sister is the mother of the babies and thanked well-wishers for their congratulatory messages.
Dede is regarded as one of Africa’s most accomplished goalkeepers. She earned more than 90 caps for Nigeria’s senior women’s national team before retiring from international football in 2016, following her final appearance at the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
During her career, she represented Nigeria at four FIFA Women’s World Cups (2003, 2007, 2011, and 2015), three Olympic Games (2000, 2004, and 2008), and four Women’s Africa Cup of Nations tournaments, winning the continental title in 2010 and 2014.
At club level, Dede featured for Delta Queens, Rivers Angels, and Bayelsa Queens in Nigeria, as well as Norwegian side Arna-Bjørnar, cementing her legacy as one of the continent’s finest goalkeepers.
