Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has been appointed as the Chairman of the Osun State Sports Trust Fund, according to an official announcement by the Osun State Government.
The state government said the appointment is part of its broader plan to revamp the sports sector and mobilize private and corporate funding to support sports development in Osun.
Deputy Governor Kola Adewusi, who also serves as the Commissioner for Sports, confirmed the development on Tuesday, noting that the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke is committed to transforming the stateās sports infrastructure.
Adewusi revealed that the ongoing renovation of the Osogbo Township Stadium is nearing completion and will meet Olympic standards once finalized. He added that the government is also finalizing plans to establish the Osun State Sports Commission, which will serve as a central body for sports administration, development, and policy coordination.
āDavido has been appointed to chair the Sports Trust Fund, and he did not hesitate in accepting the appointment,ā Adewusi stated. āHis involvement will attract both local and international investments that will impact Osunās sports development positively.ā
The Osun Sports Trust Fund, according to government officials, will serve as a sustainable financing mechanism to support grassroots sports, infrastructure development, and athlete empowerment across the state.
Davido, who hails from a prominent Adeleke family in Osun and is the nephew of Governor Adeleke, is expected to leverage his global influence to drive new partnerships and elevate the stateās sports profile.
