Chelsea FC have confirmed the appointment of Xabi Alonso as the club’s new manager on a four-year deal ahead of the new football season.
The appointment is seen as part of Chelsea’s efforts to rebuild and reposition the club following a difficult campaign.
Alonso arrives at Stamford Bridge with an emerging managerial reputation after previous coaching spells in Germany and Spain. His most recent stint at Real Madrid was marked by inconsistent performances and reports of dressing room tensions.
The Spaniard reportedly faced challenges managing a star-studded squad, including alleged disagreements with Brazilian forward Vinícius Júnior during his time in Madrid.
Despite the difficulties, Chelsea’s management is said to be confident in Alonso’s long-term coaching philosophy and ability to develop a competitive team built around the club’s youthful squad.
Speaking after his appointment, Alonso described the move as an important milestone in his managerial career.
“I am proud to join this historic club,” he said. “There is enormous potential here, and I am determined to build a competitive team that reflects the ambitions of Chelsea Football Club.”
Chelsea are expected to adopt a more possession-based and structured style of play under the former midfielder, whose coaching approach has been shaped by experiences at the highest levels of European football.
Supporters of the London club will now be looking to Alonso to restore stability and guide Chelsea back into contention for major honours when the new Premier League season begins.
