Former Super Eagles forward, Brown Ideye, has officially retired from professional football at the age of 36.
Ideye confirmed his decision on Tuesday in a post shared via his X handle, describing the move as one made with “mixed emotions.”
“After much thought and consideration with mixed emotions, I’ve decided to retire from professional football,” he wrote. “I will first like to thank God for the talent and the long career I’ve enjoyed. I thank my family and friends for their unwavering love, support and understanding till this day.”
The striker, who earned 28 caps and scored six goals for Nigeria, was a member of the Super Eagles squad that lifted the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa.
At club level, Ideye played across several top leagues, featuring for sides in England, Greece, China, Ukraine, and Spain.
While bidding farewell to the pitch, the former Dynamo Kyiv and West Bromwich Albion star noted that football “will always be a part of my life” as he embarks on his next chapter.
