The Lagos State University Muslim Community (LASUMC) has extended warm congratulations to Catholics worldwide on the election of Cardinal Robert Prevost as the 267th Pope, hailing the pontiff as a symbol of global peace and unity.
In a statement issued on Friday in Lagos, LASUMC’s Chief Imam, Prof. Amidu Sanni, expressed goodwill on behalf of the Muslim community at the institution, describing the papacy of the newly elected Pope Leo XIV as timely and significant.
“On behalf of the Muslim community of LASU, I send a goodwill message to the 1.4 billion Catholic faithful on the successful selection of Cardinal Robert Prevost as the 267th Pontiff,” Sanni stated.
He praised the Pope’s 14-year mission in impoverished regions of Peru, describing it as an experience that has shaped him for his new global role.
Highlighting the Pope’s advocacy for peace, reconciliation, and disarmament in his first public address, Sanni noted that Pope Leo’s message resonates deeply in today’s troubled world, which is plagued by conflicts, political divides, and humanitarian crises.
“His call for peace over power and his emphasis on reconciliation in global conflict zones strike a moral chord in a world yearning for unity and respect for human dignity,” the statement read.
