The Lagos State Government will commence a 35 day rehabilitation of Ozumba Mbadiwe Road on Monday, October 19, 2026, introducing traffic diversions and alternative routes to minimise disruption to motorists.
The rehabilitation will cover the stretch from the Adetokunbo Ademola/Civic Centre junction to Samuel Manuwa/BJ.
The Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, announced the project in a traffic advisory issued on Thursday, October 15, outlining diversion arrangements for motorists travelling through the affected areas.
Under the plan, a contra flow system will operate on the Lagos bound lane between Samuel Manuwa and Adetokunbo Ademola/Civic Centre while work is carried out on the opposite lane.
Motorists travelling from Bonny Camp and Falomo towards the Civic Centre and Lekki are advised to use Adeyemo Alakija Street by Muri Okunola Park, connect to Adeola Hopewell Street and Akinbo Savage Street, and continue through Bishop Aboyade Cole Street to School Corner near Black Diamond before proceeding towards Sandfield.
Those travelling from Falomo towards Akin Adesola should pass through IMB and connect to the Coastal Road entrance via Adetokunbo Ademola Road. They should then proceed through Eko Hotel Roundabout and use Ajose Adeogun and Ligali streets towards School Corner near Black Diamond.
Motorists coming from Bonny Camp are advised to use Ahmadu Bello Way and connect to Eko Hotel Roundabout through the IMB/Coastal Road entrance before proceeding through Bishop Aboyade Cole Street, Adetokunbo Ademola Road, Eko Hotel Roundabout, Ajose Adeogun and Ligali streets towards School Corner.
Vehicles travelling from Eko Hotel through Adetokunbo Ademola Road towards the Civic Centre will also be diverted through Bishop Aboyade Cole Street and School Corner near Black Diamond before continuing towards Sandfield.
Motorists exiting through the 1004 exit gate will be directed to turn left or make a U turn in front of the gate before proceeding through Bishop Aboyade Cole Street to School Corner and Sandfield.
For those travelling from Eko Hotel towards Falomo and Ikoyi, the government has advised using Sanusi Fafunwa Street to connect to Akin Adesola Street and continue towards the ramp bridge.
Osiyemi said officers of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority would be deployed to manage traffic and reduce congestion during the rehabilitation. He added that preliminary work on the project would commence at VGC.
The commissioner urged motorists to plan their journeys ahead, obey traffic officials and cooperate with the diversion arrangements to ease movement during the construction period.
The state government also advised road users to familiarise themselves with the alternative routes and allow extra time for their journeys while the rehabilitation is underway.
