The Kwara State Government has commenced the 2026 Coding and Digital Literacy Programme in schools across the state, building on what it described as the success of the 2025 edition.
The announcement was made in a statement shared on Friday through the official X handle of Kwara Digital Innovations. According to the statement, the new session is aimed at consolidating gains recorded in the previous year, which concluded with the Kwara Futures Exhibition showcasing innovation and technical skills demonstrated by students.
The government said the 2025 programme received widespread acceptance and highlighted the impact of sustained investment in digital education and youth empowerment.
As part of preparations for the new academic cycle, specific directives were issued to participating schools. Institutions that launched the programme in 2025 are to begin with a comprehensive revision of their assigned tracks, either Coding or Digital Literacy, to strengthen foundational knowledge. Schools yet to introduce the subjects have been directed to commence immediately with the Digital Literacy curriculum to ensure students acquire essential 21st-century skills.
The 2026 curriculum has been expanded to cover Web Development, Artificial Intelligence, Python Programming, Innovative Thinking, Project Building and Mentorship. The government said the updated content is designed to equip students with both technical and soft skills required in the evolving global technology ecosystem.
The statement noted that the rollout has the full approval and support of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, who has made necessary provisions for the programme’s successful implementation.
According to the government, the initiative forms part of its broader vision to position Kwara as a leading digital hub by equipping young people with competitive global skills. School administrators and representatives were urged to adhere strictly to the outlined guidelines to maintain and improve on the standards achieved in the previous session.
