Former Senator Rafiu Ibrahim, a notable figure in Kwara State politics, has died at the age of 57 after a brief illness, his family announced today. The news has sent shockwaves throughout the state and among the political community.

Senator Ibrahim, who served Kwara South Senatorial District from 2015 to 2019, passed away late Tuesday night. According to a statement released by the family and obtained by our correspondent, the family is requesting prayers and support during this trying period. “We pray Allah forgives his shortcomings and grants him Al-Jannah Firdaus. Ameen,” the statement read. Details regarding his burial arrangements will be announced in due course.

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq expressed deep sorrow upon hearing the news of Senator Ibrahim’s demise. In a statement conveyed by his Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, the governor extended his condolences to Ibrahim’s family, the residents of Ojoku in Oyun Local Government Area where Ibrahim was deeply rooted, and members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“This shocking development again reminds everyone of the inevitability of death for all human beings and the fact that it could come unannounced for anyone,” Governor AbdulRazaq stated.

Rafiu Ibrahim, born on December 12, 1966, was a respected member of the National Assembly where he chaired the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance, and Other Financial Institutions. During his tenure, he was known for his advocacy and legislative work, sponsoring six bills and supervising eight others, contributing significantly to the financial sector’s legislative oversight.

Before his senatorial career, Ibrahim was active in local politics and had a significant impact on his community. His political career was marked by a commitment to the economic development and welfare of his constituents.
