Nigeria’s U-20 Female Soccer team, The Falconets on Sunday night outclassed South Korea in the ongoing FIFA Under-20 female World Cup in Costa Rica. The match ended 1-0 in their favour.

With that victory, The Falconets, now with six points, are not only atop their Group C, they have qualified for the quarter-finals of the competition.

Esther Onyenezide’s magnificent strike on 83 minutes made the difference in a truly pulsating encounter that saw Korea, 2-0 conquerors of Canada trying to break their Nigerian jinx.

Onyenezide’s rocket shot from outside the 18-yard box made nonsense of the Korean goalkeeper’s otherwise sterling display prior to the goal. Onyenezide’s goal eventually won her the player of the match award.

The Nigerian side will now play Canada in their last game on August 18, a mere formality.
