Team Brazil on Sunday emerged champions of the E1 Lagos Grand Prix, clinching their first-ever win in the electric powerboat racing series. The duo of Timmy Hansen and Leva Millere-Hagin powered Team Brazil to victory after a commanding performance through the group stages, the race-off, and a thrilling final showdown.
With 38 points earned from their triumph, Team Brazil’s overall tally now stands at 89 points—cementing their rise in the championship standings. They finished ahead of Team Blue Rising, who claimed second place, while Team Drogba took the third position. Notably, fan favorites Team Rafa and Team Brady, both consistent front-runners in earlier races, failed to make the podium this time.
The E1 Lagos Grand Prix, held over the weekend of October 4 and 5 at the scenic waterfronts of Victoria Island, marked a historic milestone as Lagos became the first African city to host the cutting-edge global event.
The E1 Championship is the world’s first all-electric powerboat racing series, designed to merge high-speed entertainment with environmental sustainability. The sleek, battery-powered boats—known as RaceBirds—embody the future of marine mobility, drawing international teams, investors, and spectators to each host city.
Speaking to journalists during the grand finale, the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, described the event as a proud moment for the state and the continent.
> “Hosting the E1 Grand Prix is not just about sport. It is about innovation, environmental responsibility, and putting Lagos on the global map for future-focused development,” Governor Sanwo-Olu said.
He emphasized that the championship showcased Lagos’ creativity, resilience, and commitment to clean energy, reflecting the state’s growing role as a hub for technology-driven and sustainable urban growth.
The Governor commended the organizers, participants, and Lagosians for their enthusiastic support, adding that such events underscore the state’s readiness to host international competitions that align with its smart city and climate action goals.
The Lagos leg of the E1 Championship drew thousands of spectators, blending world-class racing with vibrant cultural displays, music, and hospitality that reflected the city’s unique spirit.
With the success of the Lagos Grand Prix, both organizers and government officials have hinted at making the city a regular stop on the E1 global racing calendar, further strengthening its position as Africa’s gateway to innovation, sports, and sustainable energy solutions.
