In a shocking incident on Monday, two revered traditional rulers in Ekiti state fell victim to a brutal attack by suspected kidnappers.

The monarchs, Oba David Ogunsakin, the Elesun of Esun-Ekiti, and Oba Olatunde Olusola, the Onimojo of Omojola-Ekiti, were fatally shot while returning from a meeting in Irele-Ekiti.

The grim episode unfolded as the unsuspecting traditional leaders were accosted by armed assailants who opened fire, leaving them fatally wounded. The tragic event was confirmed by Sunday Abutu, the police public relations officer in Ekiti, who acknowledged the killing while stating that details surrounding the incident remained unclear.

In response to the heinous act, the Ekiti State Police swiftly deployed tactical and intelligence teams to the scene of the crime. Notably, Oba Adebayo Fatoba, the Alara of Ara-Ekiti, managed to escape the ambush, emerging as the sole survivor among the targeted traditional rulers.

Micheal Ogungbemi, the chairman of Ajoni local council development area, revealed that the assailants had not only taken lives but also attempted to abduct the three traditional rulers during the violent encounter.

Governor Biodun Oyebanji, deeply affected by the tragedy, wasted no time in issuing directives to security agencies to apprehend the perpetrators. Expressing heartfelt condolences to the communities of Imojo Ekiti and Esun Ekiti, Governor Oyebanji asserted that every effort would be made to ensure justice for the victims.

In a stern message, he urged security forces in the state to maintain unwavering vigilance and determination in eradicating criminal activities. The governor vowed that no stone would be left unturned in the pursuit of justice for the fallen traditional rulers, emphasizing the commitment to stamp out crime in Ekiti state.
