At least 13 people have lost their lives following a deadly attack by suspected armed herdsmen on Efeyi community in Ugboju, Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State.
The assailants reportedly stormed the community on Tuesday, opening fire on residents and causing panic as many fled for safety.p
Local sources said the attack claimed the lives of no fewer than 13 residents, while several others remain unaccounted for. Search efforts are ongoing as community members and security personnel continue to comb the area for missing persons.ll
The latest incident has heightened concerns over the persistent wave of violence affecting several communities across Benue State, where clashes and attacks have continued to result in loss of lives and displacement of residents.
When contacted for official confirmation, the spokesperson of the Benue State Police Colmmand, Edet Udeme, said she was still gathering details surrounding the attack and would provide further information after receiving a comprehensive report.
Authorities are expected to intensify security operations in the affected area as investigations into the incident continue.
