At least six people lost their lives while nine others sustained injuries in a fatal accident on Monday at Ibeju Bus Stop along the Lekki–Epe Expressway, Lagos State.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) said the crash occurred when a blue Volvo FL6 truck loaded with wooden planks collided with a white commercial bus bearing registration number AKD 336 YD.
Those killed in the accident included two men, three women, and a child, while four other passengers escaped unhurt.
According to LASTMA’s Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Adebayo Taofiq, emergency responders quickly moved in to rescue survivors. “The nine injured survivors were swiftly extricated by LASTMA officials with support from other emergency responders and immediately conveyed to the Federal Medical Centre, Epe, and Hammond Hospital for urgent medical attention,” he said.
Taofiq added that LASTMA worked in collaboration with the Federal Road Safety Corps, the Nigeria Police Force, and the Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps to evacuate victims and clear the road for traffic flow.
The remains of the deceased were deposited at the Federal Medical Centre morgue in Epe, pending identification by family members.
LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, extended condolences to the bereaved families and warned motorists against reckless driving, particularly overspeeding. He urged drivers to obey traffic laws and remain alert, especially during the Ember Months, a period notorious for high accident rates.
