The Lagos State Government has commenced the monitoring of schools across the state to ensure compliance with academic standards as students resumed for the 2025/2026 academic session this week.
In a statement on Wednesday, the spokesperson of the Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA), Adepeju Adeyemi, confirmed that the exercise began on Monday, September 15, covering basic and secondary schools across the state.
The monitoring team, led by OEQA Coordinating Director Remi Abdul, visited several institutions, including Dolphin Senior High School, Lagos Island, where the team was received by the school’s Principal and Director, Comfort Agunlejika.
Focus on compliance with harmonised calendar
Abdul explained that the visits were aimed at verifying adherence to the approved resumption date as contained in the 2025/2026 Harmonised Academic Calendar.
According to the schedule, the first half of the term runs from September 15 to October 31, 2025 (34 days), while the second half will span November 10 to December 19, 2025 (34 days). Both halves will be interspersed with an Open Day and a mid-term break.
The inspection team also assessed whether schools had conducted pre-resumption meetings and put in place key statutory records such as lesson notes, diaries, and attendance registers to ensure a smooth take-off of the term.
Students, teachers charged to excel
During an interaction with students of SSS 3, Abdul encouraged them to take their studies seriously, stressing that their performance this term would determine their progression to higher education.
“Read well, stay focused, avoid skipping classes, and begin early preparation for your WASSCE examinations,” he advised.
He also urged teachers to remain committed to delivering quality education, assuring that the state government would continue to support efforts that enhance effective teaching and learning.
The Lagos State Government has repeatedly emphasized its zero-tolerance stance on non-compliance by schools and has pledged to sustain routine inspections throughout the academic session.
