The Executive Chairman of Onigbongbo Local Council Development Area, Hon. Moyosore Adebanjo, has received an Award of Commendation from the Lagos State Government, through the Office of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Climate Change and Circular Economy, in recognition of his administration’s commitment to environmental sustainability, climate action and circular economy development at the grassroots.

The award was presented by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Climate Change and Circular Economy, Mrs. Titilayo Oshodi, during a courtesy visit to the Council, where she also presented the Impact Report of the Eco-Circulate Onigbongbo Initiative.
The initiative, held at Opebi Primary School, Allen, Ikeja, was designed to promote waste recovery, recycling, resource efficiency and inclusive green economic opportunities, while encouraging residents to view waste as a valuable resource within the circular economy.

According to the Impact Report presented by Mrs. Oshodi, the programme successfully recovered and diverted over 503 kilogrammes of recyclable waste, including PET bottles, cartons, household plastics, nylons and aluminium cans, from the conventional waste stream.
Participating residents received immediate economic incentives, including cash and cooking gas refills, demonstrating how circular economy interventions can deliver both environmental and socio-economic benefits at the community level.
The recovered materials were estimated to have prevented approximately 1,124.4 kilogrammes of CO₂ equivalent emissions, equivalent to an estimated 1.124 carbon credits, highlighting the contribution of community-based recycling to climate change mitigation and greenhouse gas emissions reduction.

Presenting the Award of Commendation, Mrs. Titilayo Oshodi commended Hon. Moyosore Adebanjo for his leadership, vision and commitment to advancing sustainable environmental practices and supporting the Lagos State Government’s climate change and circular economy objectives.
Receiving the award, Hon. Moyosore Adebanjo expressed appreciation to the Lagos State Government and the Office of the Special Adviser for the recognition and partnership. He also acknowledged the contributions of traditional institutions, Council officials, community leaders, residents, volunteers and other stakeholders whose participation contributed to the success of the initiative.
The Chairman reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to advancing resource recovery, sustainable waste management, climate resilience, environmental stewardship and inclusive green economic development, noting that these priorities align with the administration’s F.I.N.E. Agenda.
He further assured that the Council would continue to strengthen partnerships and support innovative grassroots interventions that reduce environmental impact, create economic opportunities and contribute to the broader climate action and circular economy goals of Lagos State
