President Muhammadu Buhari hinted in his special Independence broadcast on October 1, 2021 that he has approved conditional lifting of ban on microblogging giant Twitter.

According to the President, the ban on the microblogging platform, Twitter, was a result of the timely intervention of the government to checkmate certain unsettling trends on the social media platform.

The president said: “Following the suspension of Twitter operations, Twitter Inc. reached out to the Federal Government of Nigeria to resolve the impasse. Subsequently, I constituted a Presidential Committee to engage Twitter to explore the possibility of resolving the issue”.
