Popular South African human rights activist and cleric, Bishop Desmond Tutu has died at the ripe age of 90. The Lagosian Magazine gathered that the news of the death of the anti-apartheid frontline cleric was gathered on Wednesday by the Anglican Bishop of Johannesburg Diocese, Stephen Moreo.

Moreo confirming the death of the nonagenarian, Moreo in a statement on Twitter wrote: “ATTENTION. The Anglican Diocese of Johannesburg receives now the sad news of the death of our dearest Archbishop Desmond Tutu. “The Most Reverend Archbishop Desmond Mpilo Tutu dies at 90. Official note to be released soon.”

The Late Archbishop Tutu was the first black man to serve as the Bishop of Johannesburg (1985-1986) and then the Archbishop of Cape Town (1986-1996). He also won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1984.
