“This is crazy. This is beyond belief. This is absolutely shambolic. This is ridiculous.” Those were the lamentations of a Nigerian currently on quarantine in London after she and her co-inmates at a quarantine facility in the UK were left to freeze outside following an alleged fire alarm.

Not only was she bitter about the shabby treatment meted to the travellers, she was irate about the total lack of Covid-19 Protocols, including the much-needed social distancing among “supposedly infected travellers”.

This development is seen by observers as a classic example of the inhuman experience foreign travellers are subjected to by the so-called advanced nations in their often disturbing bid to fend off the pandemic, especially the novel Omicron variant.

Others also decry the lackadaisical attitude of the Nigerian and other less-powerful governments to the horrific treatment their citizens receive in foreign lands during this global catastrophe.

Meanwhile, as at press time, the stranded travellers were still in the British cold lamenting their fate while there seems to be no end in sight for their ordeals.
