Sunday Igboho has denied rumours suggesting he escaped from security operatives by turning into a cat during the July 1, 2021, raid on his residence in the Soka area of Ibadan, Oyo State.
Speaking in remarks reported by Vanguard on Tuesday, the Yoruba Nation campaigner described the widely circulated story as false, insisting that he remained inside the house throughout the operation without being detected by the operatives.
According to Igboho, the DSS officers mistakenly killed a cat after believing it was him, an incident he cited as evidence that the rumours surrounding his escape were unfounded.
He also alleged that security personnel brought an individual he described as a fake herbalist to the residence during the operation. According to him, the man was making incantations and performing rituals while the raid was ongoing.
Igboho maintained that despite the extensive search carried out in the building, he watched the events unfold from his hiding place inside the house without being discovered.
I didn’t turn into a cat. They even killed it, thinking it was me. They even brought a fake herbalist who was making incantations and performing rituals. I was inside the house watching them, but they didn’t see me,” he said.
The activist’s latest account revisits one of the most talked-about incidents surrounding the 2021 DSS operation, which drew nationwide attention after security operatives stormed his residence in an attempt to arrest him.
His comments seek to clarify the circumstances of his escape and reject the supernatural claims that have persisted for years.
