The Federal Government has described the recent advisory issued by the United States Embassy authorising the departure of non-essential personnel from its Abuja mission as a routine precaution, maintaining that Nigeria remains stable and fully operational.
In a statement released on Thursday, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, said the decision by the United States was based on internal protocols and does not reflect the overall security situation in the country.
He reassured citizens and the international community that governance, economic activities, and daily life across Nigeria continue without disruption.
While acknowledging the presence of security challenges in some areas, the minister stressed that there is no widespread breakdown of law and order, noting that most parts of the country remain safe and stable.
Idris highlighted ongoing progress made through coordinated security operations, including intelligence-driven interventions and strengthened collaboration among security agencies. According to him, these efforts have led to the disruption of criminal networks and improved safety in vulnerable communities.
“Our security agencies remain actively engaged in protecting lives and property, and the results of these efforts are increasingly evident,” he stated.
The Federal Government also reaffirmed Nigeria’s openness to business, travel, and investment, citing ongoing economic reforms aimed at boosting investor confidence and enhancing the country’s global standing.
Idris noted that continued engagement from international partners and investors demonstrates confidence in Nigeria’s stability and long-term prospects.
While recognising the right of countries to issue travel advisories, the government called for balanced and up-to-date assessments that accurately reflect current realities. It also urged foreign partners to maintain close engagement with Nigerian authorities for a clearer understanding of the security landscape.
The government reiterated its commitment to sustaining security improvements and assured both citizens and visitors that Nigeria remains a safe and welcoming destination.
