The Independent National Electoral Commission has removed the names of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the African Democratic Congress led by David Mark from its official portal, citing the need to maintain neutrality amid an ongoing leadership dispute within the party.
The decision was announced in a statement issued by the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Haruna, following the commission’s meeting on Tuesday.
According to INEC, the action was taken in compliance with an order of the Court of Appeal directing all parties to preserve the “status quo ante bellum,” referring to the situation as it existed before September 2, 2025, when the suit was first filed.
The commission stated that it would refrain from taking any steps that could influence the outcome of the case or render court proceedings ineffective. It also declined a request by the plaintiff’s solicitors to recognise Nafiu Bala Gombe as the party’s leader pending the court’s determination.
INEC further announced that it would suspend all interactions with factions of the party, including monitoring meetings, congresses, or conventions convened by any group within the ADC until the matter is resolved by the Federal High Court in Abuja.
The electoral body explained that since the names of the current NWC were uploaded on September 9, 2025—after the suit had already been instituted—they would be removed to comply with the appellate court’s directive.
Reaffirming its commitment to neutrality and adherence to judicial orders, INEC urged political stakeholders to act responsibly and avoid actions that could disrupt preparations for the 2027 general elections.
