The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arrested an Abuja-based house agent, Hajia Adama Adamu, over an alleged N288 million property fraud.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the anti-graft agency said the suspect was apprehended by operatives of its Ilorin Zonal Directorate following a petition.
According to the commission, Adamu allegedly obtained over N288 million under false pretences by claiming she would facilitate the purchase of a property located at House 31, Haile Selassie Street, in the Asokoro area of Abuja.
The EFCC disclosed that the funds were reportedly collected from a complainant, identified as Alhaji Tanko Yawale, for the said transaction.
The agency further stated that after receiving the payment, the suspect allegedly failed to provide valid documentation for the property and subsequently became evasive, raising suspicion and prompting a formal complaint.
Investigations into the matter are ongoing, with the commission expected to proceed with further legal action upon conclusion of its inquiry.
