A tragic incident has been reported in Kano State, where a housewife, Hafsatu Yusuf, died hours after giving birth to quintuplets at the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital.
The woman reportedly passed away less than 24 hours after delivering the five babies—three boys and two girls—in what medical experts describe as a rare case.
Confirming the development, the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Ministry of Health, Nabulisi Abubakar, said the mother died due to complications arising during childbirth.
According to him, Yusuf succumbed to severe postpartum bleeding despite efforts by medical personnel to save her life.
He, however, disclosed that the five newborns are in stable condition and are responding well to treatment.
The Kano State Government has since taken responsibility for the care and welfare of the babies.
Before the latest delivery, the deceased was already a mother of eight, bringing attention to the risks associated with high-risk pregnancies and multiple births.
Health authorities have not provided further details on the circumstances surrounding the complications, but the incident has again highlighted concerns over maternal health and access to quality healthcare services in the country.
