The Court of Arbitration for Sport has confirmed receipt of an appeal filed by Senegal seeking to overturn the Confederation of African Football’s decision to strip the country of its 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title.
The appeal follows a controversial ruling by CAF’s Appeal Board, which awarded the 2025 AFCON trophy to Morocco after overturning Senegal’s victory in the final match.
CAF had ruled that Senegal forfeited the final, awarding a 3–0 result in favour of the Moroccan Football Federation after upholding a protest by the hosts over alleged misconduct during the match.
The decision was linked to chaotic scenes late in the final, when Senegalese players briefly walked off the pitch following a disallowed goal and a penalty awarded to Morocco. CAF cited violations of its competition regulations on misconduct and forfeiture.
However, in a statement released on Wednesday, the Court of Arbitration for Sport confirmed that the Senegalese Football Federation has formally lodged an appeal challenging the ruling.
According to CAS, the appeal seeks to set aside CAF’s decision and restore Senegal as the rightful winners of the 2025 tournament.
The development sets the stage for a legal battle that could determine the final outcome of one of the most contentious finals in AFCON history.
