The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on Monday decorated 30 senior officers newly promoted to the ranks of Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) and Commissioner of Police (CP) at a ceremony held in Abuja.
The event took place at the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Peacekeeping Hall and followed the recent promotion of 84 senior officers across various cadres in the Nigeria Police Force, including 54 Deputy Commissioners (DCP) and Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACP).
In his address, Disu described the promotions as recognition of merit, discipline, and proven capacity, stressing that the elevations represent a strategic investment in leadership for a more effective and accountable police force.
He urged the newly decorated officers to lead with integrity and professionalism, emphasising a strict policy of zero tolerance for indiscipline, corruption, and dereliction of duty.
The police chief also reiterated the importance of respect for human rights and community engagement as core operational principles, noting that these values remain central to modern policing.
Disu further announced that all newly promoted AIGs will participate in a mandatory Strategic Leadership Retreat beginning on March 24, 2026. The programme, organised in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme, is aimed at strengthening leadership capacity and promoting contemporary policing standards.
Among those decorated as AIGs are Christopher Ado Emmanuel, Joseph Eribo, Miller Gajere Dantawaye, Henry Ifeanyi Uche, Olanrewaju Peter Ogunlowo, Mohammed Dahiru, Dankombo Faling Morris, Bello Shehu, Ibrahim Balarabe Maikaba, Ahmed Musa, Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, Simeon Udofia Akpanudom, and Haruna Olufemi.
Newly decorated Commissioners of Police include Abdulrahim Audu Shaibu, Sarah Idowu Ehindero, and Rebecca Uchenna Okereke, among others.
The ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including Ovie Omo-Agege, former First Lady Patience Jonathan, retired IGP Sunday Ehindero, and Placid Njoku, alongside representatives from state governments and the National Defence College.
The Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, confirmed details of the event in a statement issued on Monday.
