Galatasaray have confirmed that forward Victor Osimhen and winger Noa Lang may undergo surgery following injuries sustained during their 4-0 defeat to Liverpool FC in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday night.
Osimhen was forced off at half-time during the Round of 16 second-leg encounter at Anfield after suffering an arm injury early in the match. The Nigerian striker collided with Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konaté during an aerial challenge, with the defender landing on his arm.
Despite appearing in visible pain, Osimhen continued the first half with his forearm bandaged before being withdrawn at the start of the second half.
In a statement released on Thursday, Galatasaray confirmed that medical examinations conducted after the match revealed a fracture in the player’s right forearm, which has since been placed in a cast. The club added that a final decision on whether the striker will undergo surgery will be made after further medical evaluation.
The Turkish side also disclosed that Lang, who came on as a substitute for Osimhen, sustained a serious cut to his right thumb during the encounter. He is expected to undergo surgery in Liverpool before returning to Istanbul.
The injuries compound a disappointing night for Galatasaray, who exited the competition following the heavy defeat.
Prior to the setback, Osimhen had been instrumental in the club’s Champions League campaign, registering seven goals and three assists in 10 appearances, alongside multiple man-of-the-match performances.
