The Nigerian University Pension Management Company Limited (NUPEMCO) celebrated women of the Lagos State University (LASU) community in commemoration of International Women’s Day on Wednesday, 11th March 2026, at the SL Edu Hall, Faculty of Science, Lagos State University, Ojo.
The event, organised to honour and empower women within the university community, was held under the theme “Give to Gain: The Power of Financial Empowerment.” The programme brought together female staff members of financial experts and other stakeholders to discuss the importance of financial literacy, investment and long-term financial security for women.

In her welcome address, the NUPEMCO representative, Mrs. Nenyen MARGNI, expressed appreciation to the university management for their continued support over the years and for providing NUPEMCO the opportunity to celebrate women within the LASU community. She also commended the women present for their invaluable contributions to the growth of the institution and society at large. While giving a brief overview of NUPEMCO’s services, she emphasised the organisation’s commitment to promoting financial awareness and retirement security among university employees.
Delivering the keynote lecture, Prof. Sehilat Abike BOLARINWA spoke extensively on the theme, “Give to Gain: The Power of Financial Empowerment.” In her presentation, she encouraged women to cultivate the habit of saving and investing wisely rather than spending all their income on luxury items. She highlighted the importance of financial discipline, long-term planning and strategic investments as essential tools for achieving financial independence and stability. According to her, financial empowerment enables women to secure their future, support their families and contribute meaningfully to national development.

Adding a creative dimension to the programme, Miss Rashidat Olamidayo AJAKAYE presented a powerful poem titled “I Am a Proud Woman.” Through the performance, she celebrated the strength, resilience and invaluable roles women play in society, particularly as mothers, professionals and community builders. Her rendition resonated strongly with the audience and further reinforced the theme of empowerment and recognition of women’s contributions.
The event also featured an engaging panel discussion on the topic “Women, Wealth and Long-term Financial Security. ”The panel comprised Mrs Oluwakemi BADA, Mr Ganiu ADEBESO, and Mrs Tolulope AWOSIKA, who shared practical insights on financial planning, pension management, investment opportunities and the importance of preparing for retirement. The panellists encouraged participants to develop sustainable financial habits, diversify their investments and take advantage of pension schemes to secure their future. It was also discussed that members should make good use of the PPP (Personal Pension Plan) which is a good opportunity for saving.

Participants had the opportunity to ask questions and interact with the speakers and panellists, creating an atmosphere of knowledge sharing and practical learning.
The NUPEMCO Business Development Officer, Mr Olawale SALIU reiterated the organisation’s commitment to empowering university employees with the knowledge and tools necessary for effective financial management and retirement planning. The event concluded with a renewed call for women to take deliberate steps towards financial independence and long-term wealth creation.

Overall, the celebration served as a valuable platform for recognising the achievements of women while also equipping them with the financial knowledge needed to build secure and sustainable futures.
