The Federal Polytechnic Orogun in Delta State has matriculated 637 students into its National Diploma programmes for the 2025/2026 academic session, with the institution urging the new students to maintain discipline and shun social vices.
The Rector of the polytechnic, Duke Okoro, gave the charge during the institution’s third matriculation ceremony held on Saturday at the Senator Remi Tinubu Lecture Theatre.
Represented by the Deputy Rector, Efetobor Elijah, Okoro described the ceremony as a significant milestone in the institution’s growth within Nigeria’s technical and vocational education sector.
According to him, the newly admitted students comprise 501 full-time and 136 part-time candidates drawn from different parts of the country.
He noted that the increasing number of enrolments reflects the growing confidence of parents and students in the institution’s academic direction and leadership.
Okoro also highlighted the rapid expansion of the polytechnic, stating that it has grown from three academic programmes at its inception to 19 programmes approved by the National Board for Technical Education across four schools.
The rector explained that the management has deliberately positioned the institution to focus on digital literacy, entrepreneurship, and industry-relevant skills.
He emphasised that the institution prioritises character development alongside academic excellence, urging the students to avoid activities that could jeopardise their future.
Okoro warned against cultism, examination malpractice, cybercrime, and other forms of misconduct, stressing that the polytechnic operates a zero-tolerance policy for actions that undermine academic integrity.
He also expressed appreciation to stakeholders who have supported the development of the institution, particularly the founder and former Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, whose legislative intervention led to the establishment of the polytechnic.
The rector further acknowledged the contributions of the Federal Ministry of Education, the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, the Industrial Training Fund, and the National Board for Technical Education for their roles in supporting the institution’s growth.
The event featured the administration of the matriculation oath, during which the newly admitted students pledged to abide by the rules and regulations of the polytechnic. Parents and guardians present at the ceremony commended the management for the institution’s rapid development and growing reputation.
