The Embassy of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in Kuwait has issued a safety advisory to Nigerian nationals residing in Kuwait and Bahrain, urging them to remain vigilant amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.
In a circular dated March 1, the embassy advised Nigerians in both countries to adhere strictly to safety guidelines and directives issued by the host governments, while remaining calm.
The mission, which has concurrent accreditation to the Kingdom of Bahrain, encouraged nationals to closely monitor official announcements and local news for updates on the evolving situation. It noted that the embassy is actively monitoring developments and maintaining contact with leaders of Nigerian communities in both countries.
To facilitate communication, the embassy announced the establishment of a dedicated mobile and WhatsApp line for inquiries and updates. Nigerians were advised to reach the mission via email at nigeriakuwait@yahoo.com or call and send messages to +965 9923 8835. A WhatsApp group link was also provided to strengthen coordination and community support.
The advisory follows reports that the United States and Israel carried out coordinated strikes on Iranian leadership and military targets on February 28, targeting naval bases, air defence systems and government facilities in Tehran and other cities. The operations reportedly prompted retaliatory missile and drone attacks by Iran on Israel and United States military bases across the region.
There have also been reports of the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, a development that could further heighten instability in the region. Additionally, the reported movement by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps to close the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global oil shipping route, has raised concerns about potential disruptions to energy supplies worldwide.
Meanwhile, the Nigeria Police Force has reassured citizens at home of heightened security vigilance, stressing that Nigeria will not become a theatre for foreign conflicts and affirming its commitment to maintaining national security.
