The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Remi Tinubu, paid a historic homecoming visit to Warri, Delta State, celebrating her Itsekiri maternal heritage on Thursday.
She was received by the Olu of Warri, His Majesty Ògíamẹ̀ Atuwatsé III, at his palace, with the visit also attended by the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Delta Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, and several traditional rulers.
The First Lady arrived at Osubi Airport to a festive reception featuring traditional performers, floats, and banners welcoming her home. The event highlighted her connection to both her Yoruba paternal roots from Ogun State and her Delta heritage, sparking celebrations of cultural pride and regional unity.
Itsekiri leaders described the visit as a milestone for promoting cultural solidarity and fostering local development. The visit also coincided with her conferment of the Utukpa-Oritse title by the Olu of Warri.
The homecoming underscores her engagement with her ancestral community while strengthening ties between the federal government and Delta State.
