The (LASTMA) has confirmed the rescue of two critically injured passengers following a serious road crash along the Gbagada inward Oshodi corridor in Lagos.
The accident involved a Toyota Highlander Jeep with registration number AKD 956 JY and a black Toyota Corolla marked APP 884 JJ. The collision caused extensive damage to both vehicles, leaving the female driver of the Corolla and her male passenger severely injured.
LASTMA officials stationed in the area responded promptly to secure the scene, manage traffic, and prevent further accidents. The injured victims were evacuated by the to the , where they are currently receiving intensive medical care.
The driver of the Highlander was arrested at the scene and handed over to the at the Anthony Police Division for further investigation.
Preliminary findings by police officers indicated that the suspect was heavily intoxicated at the time of the crash, with driving under the influence of alcohol identified as the primary cause of the incident.
LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed sympathy for the victims and wished them a speedy recovery. He strongly condemned drunk driving, describing it as a grave violation of traffic laws and a serious threat to public safety.
Bakare-Oki reiterated the agency’s zero-tolerance policy toward driving under the influence and other traffic infractions, urging motorists to adhere strictly to road safety regulations, ensure proper vehicle maintenance, and exercise caution, particularly on busy urban corridors.
