Vice President is set to lead a high-powered Federal Government delegation to Kano State on Monday to sympathise with victims of the Singa Market fire disaster and convey President ’s support.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, .
According to the statement, President Tinubu directed the Vice President to pledge financial assistance to affected traders and support the Kano State Government in facilitating the swift reopening of the market.
The inferno, which occurred on Saturday just days before the commencement of Ramadan, destroyed goods and property estimated to be worth billions of naira. It marked the second fire incident at the market within two weeks.
“The delegation, scheduled to depart Abuja tomorrow, will convey President Tinubu’s condolences to the traders who lost billions of naira in the weekend fire that engulfed the market,” the statement read.
It added that the team would also pledge financial assistance on behalf of the Federal Government to aid victims and assist Kano State in restoring commercial activities at the market.
Members of the delegation include the Speaker of the House of Representatives, ; Deputy Senate President, ; Senator ; and Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriation, .
Also on the delegation are the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, , and the Director-General of the (NEMA), .
President Tinubu had earlier spoken by telephone with Kano State Governor, , expressing his condolences to the traders and people of the state over the devastating incident.
The President has also directed a comprehensive investigation into the causes of the recurrent market fires, amid growing concerns over repeated outbreaks that have left traders facing significant losses.
