The (NDLEA) has stated that enforcement of Nigeria’s drug laws is not selective, insisting that its operations are carried out strictly in accordance with established legal procedures.
The agency’s Director of Media and Advocacy, , made the clarification during the third edition of the TVC News Townsquare Series.
Responding to a question from anchor Nifemi Oguntoye on why some superstar artistes who allegedly glorify cannabis use in music videos are not arrested, Babafemi said the evidence in such cases is not always as clear-cut as members of the public assume.
He maintained that the agency enforces the law based on verifiable evidence and due process, adding that the NDLEA remains ready and willing to collaborate with stakeholders in the fight against drug abuse.
Babafemi emphasised that sustained partnerships and collective action are essential to addressing the menace of substance abuse in the country.
Also speaking during the programme, music producer called for reforms of Nigeria’s drug laws to make them more responsive and effective in tackling substance abuse.
Similarly, consultant psychiatrist described the war against drug abuse as a collective responsibility, stressing that all stakeholders must work together to prevent more young Nigerians from falling victim to substance misuse.
