Zamfara State Governor, , has been named the 2025 Outstanding Governor of the Year by in recognition of his administration’s projects and reforms.
The award was presented on Friday at the New Telegraph Awards and Dinner Night held at the Grand Ballroom of the Lagos Oriental Hotel.
In a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, the newspaper’s Board of Editors said the honour was conferred on Governor Lawal for transformative initiatives across key sectors in Zamfara State.
According to the statement, the award recognised the administration’s wide-ranging reforms in education, urban renewal and the provision of basic amenities aimed at improving living standards and promoting sustainable development.
The newspaper also cited Lawal’s efforts in clearing a 13-year backlog of civil servant gratuities amounting to over N16 billion, as well as the payment of outstanding WAEC and NECO fees spanning more than three years, among other interventions.
Speaking while receiving the award, Governor Lawal expressed appreciation to the management and Board of Editors of the Daily Telegraph Publishing Company for the recognition.
He described the honour as a morale booster and pledged to intensify efforts in delivering more projects and people-focused initiatives across the state.
“This recognition serves as a morale boost that will motivate me and my cabinet to increase our efforts in implementing more projects and interventions for the benefit of our people in Zamfara,” he said.
