Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has disclosed that his administration has delivered more than 5,000 housing units across the state’s three senatorial districts since assuming office in 2019, reaffirming plans to double the figure to 10,000 units by 2027.
The governor made this known in a statement shared on his official X handle on Wednesday, where he reiterated his administration’s commitment to transforming the state’s housing sector and urban landscape through deliberate and sustained interventions.
According to Abiodun, visible progress has been recorded in key urban centres, particularly in Abeokuta, where areas such as the Ibara Government Reserved Area (GRA) have undergone significant renewal. He noted that parts of the state capital, once regarded as dilapidated, are now witnessing structured residential developments and improved urban planning consistent with modern state capitals across Nigeria.
Providing an update on the housing programme, the governor said the initiative, driven by affordability, quality and sustainability, has delivered estates across Ogun Central, Ogun West and Ogun East senatorial districts. These include developments in Kobape and Kainji in Ogun Central; Ilaro in Ogun West; and Sagamu, Ijebu-Ode, as well as the Gateway Aviation Village in Iperu, Ogun East.
Abiodun explained that the first set of two-bedroom bungalows in Kobape and Kainji were initially sold at about ₦4.95 million for civil servants and approximately ₦5 million for the general public. He added that the same houses are now valued at over ₦25 million, which he described as evidence of the quality of construction, effective planning and growing investor confidence in the state’s housing developments.
He further stated that beyond the number of units delivered, the administration has prioritised the development of world-class estates supported by modern infrastructure and essential facilities to ensure dignified living environments for residents.
“Between 2019 and today, we have delivered over 5,000 housing units across Ogun State, directly addressing the housing deficit, promoting home ownership and stimulating growth in the real estate and construction sectors,” the governor said.
Looking ahead, Abiodun reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to achieve 10,000 housing units by 2027, stressing that the goal aligns with broader plans to renew urban spaces, enhance community safety and create investment-friendly environments.
“We remain committed to making housing more accessible and reshaping the residential and economic future of Ogun State through planned, sustainable and inclusive development,” he added.
