Several Asian countries have updated their visa application procedures to allow Nigerian passport holders to apply electronically, easing travel requirements and reducing the need for in-person visits to embassies.
The introduction of e-visa systems enables applicants to complete most stages of the visa process online, making travel planning faster and more convenient. However, prospective travellers are advised to verify current requirements on official immigration platforms, as visa conditions and documentation may change.
The Asian destinations offering e-visa options to Nigerians include:
South Korea: Nigerians can apply through South Korea’s e-visa platform, although applicants are still required to submit physical documents such as passports and supporting materials at Visa Application Centres operated by VFS. The online system mainly facilitates registration and application tracking.
Singapore: Singapore does not offer a direct self-service e-visa platform for Nigerians. Applications must be submitted electronically through a Singapore citizen, permanent resident, or an approved visa agent authorised by the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority.
Malaysia: Malaysia’s e-visa programme allows Nigerians to apply entirely online for tourism, business, or social visits. Applicants complete forms, upload documents, and receive visa decisions electronically, eliminating the need for embassy visits.
Thailand: Thailand provides an e-visa option for Nigerians travelling for tourism and other approved purposes. Applicants are required to submit additional documents, including a police character certificate and a report from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, through the official e-visa portal.
Philippines: The Philippines offers an e-visa for short-term tourism and business travel. Applications and supporting documents are submitted online, with applicants required to show proof of travel purpose and intent to return.
Hong Kong: Nigerians can apply for entry into Hong Kong through an online visa application or pre-arrival registration, depending on the purpose and duration of stay. The process requires detailed documentation, including financial records and travel history.
Indonesia: Indonesia allows Nigerians to apply online for e-visas covering tourism, business, and other approved categories. The process involves completing digital forms and uploading basic travel and identity documents, with approved visas issued electronically.
Travel experts note that while e-visa systems simplify access, applicants must ensure full compliance with documentation and eligibility requirements to avoid delays or rejections.
