Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has accused Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, of failing to fully disclose the support allegedly received from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu following the Ibadan explosion.
Fayose made the claim on Friday, December 26, while speaking on TVC’s Journalists’ Hangout. According to him, the President approved a N50 billion intervention to assist Oyo State in managing the aftermath of the incident, a development he said was not properly communicated to Nigerians by the Oyo State governor.
“The president of Nigeria, yes, he wanted the sitting, he wanted the minister to be appointed. Circumstances did not allow him to get that slot,” Fayose said. “But you did not tell Nigerians that, at the prerogative and mercy of Mr President, you got N50 billion in support of the explosion in Ibadan. He never said that to Nigeria. So, the president can say the explosion is not worth more than N10 billion.”
Fayose further alleged that the funds did not go directly into the coffers of the Oyo State Government, noting that the support followed Makinde’s engagement with the President.
“The N50 billion did not come into the coffers of Oyo State. It came when you went to interface with the president because you came and said you met with the president,” he added.
The former governor also faulted Makinde for what he described as a selective account of his interaction with President Tinubu, accusing him of failing to publicly acknowledge the federal government’s intervention.
“You only told Nigerians the part where you said the president told you, ‘go and organise APC for me and I said I cannot organise,’ but you did not tell Nigerians what the president did for you and for the good people of your state,” Fayose said.
Governor Makinde has yet to respond to the allegations as of the time of filing this report.
