Onigbongbo Local Development Council Area under the chairmanship of Hon. Moyosore Adebanjo has forged a strategic partnership with the Nigerian Army for Seamless and secured Continuous Voter’s Registration process. The Chairman led a high-powered delegation on a courtesy visit to the Commander of the 9 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Brigadier General O.M. Oyekola.
The Chairman was accompanied by the Vice Chairman, Hon. Shamsideen Oloyede Akerele; Leader of the House, Hon. Francis Nkwo; Councillor representing Ward A, Hon. Lekan Ige; Chief of Staff to the Chairman, Council Manager, Council Treasurer, Deputy Chief of Staff, the CVR Committee Chairman, and the APC Ward A Chairman.
In a release made available by the Chief Press Secretary to the Chairman, Mr. Fashina Olaoluwa, Hon. Moyosore described Brigadier General Oyekola as a critical stakeholder in the development of Onigbongbo LCDA. The chairman noted that this was the first time in the history of the council that such a strategic working relationship was being established. He emphasized that the interests of the 9 Brigade remain a top priority for his administration.
The Chairman commended the Commander and his officers for the effective security architecture within the LCDA and noted that the presence of the Brigade has provided a sense of mental security for residents and even encouraged investors. He highlighted the need for stronger collaboration between the council and the Brigade, affirming that it must be incorporated into the council’s agenda.
Hon. Moyosore further clarified that the visit was devoid of political affiliation, stressing that it was a civic responsibility to engage key institutions in national development. He announced the council’s readiness to assist the cantonment community by establishing a Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) Centre within the barracks to make pre-registration, transfers, and data correction more accessible to residents.
In addition, the Chairman revealed his plans to support the market men and women at the Arena Market, promising initiatives that will strengthen their businesses and welfare.
Responding, Brigadier General Oyekola appreciated Hon. Moyosore for the visit and commended the initiative of forging a partnership with the council. He reiterated that it is the primary responsibility of the Nigerian Army to safeguard lives and properties, assuring the council of the Brigade’s readiness to build a robust and mutually beneficial relationship with Onigbongbo LCDA
