Governor Babagana Umara Zulum has visited the 29 Task Force Brigade in Benisheikh, Kaga Local Government Area of Borno State, following a deadly terrorist attack on the military formation.
The visit comes after the Defence Headquarters confirmed that both soldiers and insurgents were killed during the coordinated assault, which occurred in the early hours of Thursday.
According to a statement by Major General Michael Onoja, Director of Defence Media Operations, the attackers struck at about 12:30 a.m. on April 9, attempting to breach the brigade’s defensive perimeter.
In the aftermath of the incident, reports circulated online claiming that a senior officer, Brigadier General Oseni Braimah, died due to an unserviceable vehicle. However, the military authorities dismissed the claim as false.
In a separate statement, Lt. Col. Sanni Uba, spokesperson for the North-East Joint Task Force, Operation Hadin Kai, described the reports as misleading and exaggerated.
He also refuted claims that 17 soldiers were killed, clarifying that four personnel lost their lives in the attack.
During his visit, Governor Zulum expressed deep concern over the incident and extended condolences to the military over the loss of lives. He noted that intelligence reports had earlier indicated the possibility of an attack and urged security agencies to reassess their strategies in response to evolving threats.
The governor also reassured troops of continued support from the state government, pledging to boost their morale and strengthen security in affected communities.
