The Chairman’s Unity Cup tournament, which has been on for over two weeks finally came to a spectacular close on Tuesday November 25, 2025. The tournament was part of festivities and deliverables in commemoration of Hon. Adetola Adunni Abubakar’s first 100 Days In Office. It was Adunni Ace Strikers versus Ward G for final!
Both teams had emerged from very intense competition in the earlier play-offs amongst eight teams. Getting to the grand finale, Adunni Ace strikers made history by beating one of their opponents by 12 goals to 1 in the earlier playoffs! They further beat Ward F at the Semi-final to get to the final. They were therefore favourites to win the tournament!
Ward G on their part had tougher opponents to contend with on their way to the final. Being victorious in those earlier duels gets them in good stead for the final showdown!

It was a bright sunny afternoon at the Oba Lamina Mini Stadium on the Agboyi Island. The ancient Agboyi Creeks were to witness history, and it was indeed a brilliant spectacle watching the two finalists slog it out to outdo one another for the much coveted Agboyi-Ketu Chairman’s Unity Cup and cash prize of N1 Million Naira for the winning team!
The Chairman was present to do the kick-off ceremony and then went on to grace the entire match. Other dignitaries were present to treat themselves to the worldclass football match. Prominent amongst them is the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Sports; who affirmed to our correspondent that the match he just watched did not look anything like a local derby of neighbourhood football teams. The quality of their play was comparable to that of International Professionals and he was amazed at the quality of football he has seen at Agboyi-Ketu!

The fireworks that ensued from the start of the game saw ward G grabbing the lead by a goal to close the first half. In the second half, Adunni Ace Strikers tried to put up a fight, hoping to repeat their fiery form that got them the 12 : 1 goal line, but to no avail… It was Ward G that netted twice again in the second half to see the final match out at 3 goals to nill!
Final score was Ward G 3 : 0 Adunni Ace Strikers.
The medals, trophy and cash reward presentation ceremonies were carried out to crown the day on a high note. And it wasn’t a “winner-takes-all” affair!
Along with the coveted trophy, Ward G the winning team got a cash prize of N1,000,000
Adunni Ace Strikers as Runners Up got N750,000 while
Ward F the 3rd placed Team got N500,000

All stakeholders agree that this tournament should continue every year as it fosters very positive youth engagement and unity amongst the citizens of Agboyi-Ketu. As the thoroughly entertained residents and spectators look forward to next year’s edition already, one thing that the entire citizens of Agboyi-Ketu LCDA were united about is that the Chairman’s Unity Cup has come to stay!
