A 300-level student College of Medicine, University of Lagos, simply identified as Williams has reportedly taken his own life just a day before the commencement of the school’s examinations.
Speaking with Premium Times, the Provost of the College of Medicine, Professor David Oke, suggested that the student may have taken his own life due to the intense pressure of the upcoming exams. This suspicion arose after some of Williams’ colleagues reported that he had posted a cryptic message, such as “goodbye,” shortly before his death.
Professor Oke emphasized that the exact cause of death remains uncertain at this time, and the college management plans to conduct an autopsy following a meeting with the student’s parents.
“As of now, we cannot authoritatively say this is the cause of death, but there is a suspicion that it could be suicide. However, no definite conclusion has been reached yet,” Professor Oke stated. “The exams were scheduled to begin Monday, and some of his colleagues mentioned that he had posted a cryptic message, such as ‘goodbye,’ which they didn’t interpret as a red flag at the time.”
The Association of Medical Students, University of Lagos (AMSUL), has also confirmed the heartbreaking news in a message shared on WhatsApp. The message reads: “Dear AMSULites, it is with great sadness that we share the news of the recent passing of a beloved AMSULite in the Genezens class.
