A Ugandan traveller, Simpo Gladys, has commended the significant improvements at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos, describing the facility as “almost unrecognisable” compared to her previous visit two years ago.
Gladys shared her experience in a video posted on social media, where she highlighted improved organisation, enhanced professionalism among airport personnel, and a more efficient arrival process.
According to her, the transformation was evident from the moment she arrived, noting that the airport is now better structured and easier to navigate than during her last visit.
“I was here two years ago and I got lost in this airport. But coming just after two years, this place has changed. The airport is now more organised than before,” she said.
She also expressed satisfaction over the apparent elimination of extortion practices, which she said marred her previous experience at the airport. Gladys recalled that during her earlier visit, officials allegedly demanded payment in foreign currency before releasing luggage.
“Last time when I came, even to get my luggage, they were asking me for dollars. But this time around, no one has asked me for any money at the airport,” she stated.
The traveller further praised the conduct of airport staff, noting that they were courteous and helpful without requesting any form of gratification.
In addition to operational improvements, she observed ongoing infrastructural upgrades at the airport, including the demolition of an older terminal and the construction of a new, modern facility.
Reacting to the development, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, acknowledged the progress while assuring that more improvements are underway.
“Still a lot of work to do, but we are making steady progress,” the minister said.
The development reflects ongoing efforts by authorities to enhance service delivery and upgrade infrastructure at Nigeria’s major international gateways.
