Senior figures of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Saturday held a closed-door meeting with former President Olusegun Obasanjo in Abeokuta, Ogun State, amid deepening internal crises within the opposition party.
The delegation, led by a factional PDP chairman, Alhaji Taminu Turaki, arrived at Obasanjo’s residence located within the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library at about 11:38 a.m.
Following their arrival, the party leaders went into a private meeting with the former president. As of the time of filing this report, details of the deliberations had not been made public, and the exact purpose of the visit could not be independently confirmed.
The meeting comes against the backdrop of escalating leadership disputes and a wave of defections that have continued to weaken the PDP in recent weeks.
Notably, Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara recently defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), citing the PDP’s alleged failure to protect his political interests. Similarly, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke resigned from the party and later joined the Accord Party, where he emerged as its governorship candidate ahead of the August 2026 election.
The closed-door engagement with Obasanjo is widely seen as part of ongoing efforts by party leaders to seek guidance and possibly chart a path toward resolving the PDP’s internal challenges and stabilising its political fortunes.
