Toyota has officially revealed the 2026 Highlander, positioning the midsize SUV as a more capable, family-oriented vehicle that blends strength, comfort, and technology. Built at Toyota’s Princeton, Indiana plant, the new model is scheduled to hit dealerships in November 2025.
Performance and Power Options
The 2026 Highlander offers two powertrains. The gasoline model comes with a 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 265 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. It boasts a towing capacity of 5,000 pounds and an estimated 24 mpg combined.
The hybrid variant combines a 2.5-liter engine with electric motors, delivering 243 combined horsepower and a fuel-efficient 35 mpg combined. The hybrid can tow up to 3,500 pounds. Both versions include drive modes such as Eco, Sport, and Snow to adapt to varied driving conditions.
Interior Comfort and Space
Inside, the Highlander accommodates seven or eight passengers, depending on the seating configuration. Cargo capacity expands to 84 cubic feet with the seats folded. Comfort features include SofTex or leather upholstery, reclining second-row seating, and three-zone climate control. Higher trims offer premium additions such as a panoramic moonroof and ambient interior lighting.
Technology and Connectivity
Standard technology includes an 8-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with five USB ports. Higher trims upgrade to a 12.3-inch display and an optional 1,200-watt JBL audio system with 11 speakers. The SUV also comes with Wi-Fi connectivity, voice command functionality, and a companion mobile app for remote vehicle management.
Safety Features
Every 2026 Highlander is equipped with Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+. This suite features adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alerts. The SUV also includes eight airbags and road sign recognition.
Pricing and Availability
The gas-powered Highlander XLE starts at $45,270, while the hybrid version begins at $47,020, excluding destination charges. The lineup ranges from the sport-inspired XSE to the luxurious Platinum trim, giving buyers options that balance style, performance, and affordability.
