President Bola Tinubu is set to commission several newly completed projects at the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) as part of the institution’s 40th Convocation Ceremony scheduled to hold from Friday, October 17 to Sunday, October 26, 2025.
The University’s Registrar, Mr. Mansur Alfanla, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, noting that the week-long celebration will feature a series of events showcasing the institution’s academic and infrastructural milestones.
As part of the activities, former Lagos State Governor and immediate past Minister of Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, SAN, will deliver the Convocation Lecture titled “The Gen-Z Playbook: Navigating Work and the Real World.” The lecture is slated for Wednesday, October 22, at the University Auditorium by 9:00 a.m.
According to Alfanla, “President Tinubu is expected to commission a number of projects that reflect our institution’s continued growth, while Mr. Fashola’s lecture will serve as one of the major highlights of the convocation week.”
The programme will open on Friday, October 17, with a Special Juma’at Service at the University Central Mosque, followed by an Interdenominational Church Service at the Chapel of the Light on Sunday, October 19.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Wahab Egbewole, SAN, will address a World Press Conference on Monday, October 20, to highlight UNILORIN’s achievements in the past year and outline expectations for the convocation.
On Tuesday, October 21, the Convocation Play “Joromi” will be staged at the Performing and Film Arts Theatre in two sessions, 4:00 p.m.–6:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.–8:00 p.m.
The first phase of the Convocation Ceremony, covering four-year degree and diploma programmes, will take place on Wednesday, October 22, following the lecture. The second phase, for five- and six-year degree programmes as well as postgraduate graduands, will hold on Thursday, October 23, alongside the investiture of Emeritus Professors.
President Tinubu’s commissioning of new projects is scheduled for Thursday afternoon at 1:30 p.m., to be followed by the Staff Merit Awards and Convocation Luncheon at 4:00 p.m.
The celebrations will conclude with another Juma’at Service on Friday, October 24, and a Thanksgiving Service at St. Thomas Aquinas Chaplaincy on Sunday, October 26.
The Registrar assured that adequate security and logistics have been put in place to ensure a successful event.
“We have taken every measure to guarantee a smooth celebration,” Alfanla said. “We congratulate our graduands and look forward to a memorable convocation that reaffirms UNILORIN’s legacy of excellence.”
The 40th Convocation Ceremony is expected to attract dignitaries from across the country, including top government officials, academics, parents, and alumni.
