President Bola Tinubu has signed a bill upgrading the Federal Polytechnic, Kaduna, to the Federal University of Technology and Vocational Studies, Kaduna.
The development was announced on Friday by Daniel Amos, the lawmaker representing Jema’a/Sanga Federal Constituency in Kaduna State, who commended Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, for sponsoring the bill.
Amos, who chairs the House Committee on House Services, said the legislation would strengthen technical and vocational education, promote skills development and contribute to national development.
He described the president’s assent as evidence of the Federal Government’s commitment to educational reform and human capital development under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
The lawmaker also expressed confidence that the House of Representatives would support measures necessary for the smooth take-off of the new university.
According to Amos, the institution’s transition to a university would enhance research capacity, expand opportunities for technical and vocational training, and improve graduate employability in Kaduna State and beyond.
He added that the development would help reposition the institution to meet the growing demand for skilled professionals and contribute to Nigeria’s broader educational and economic development.
