President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has conferred the national honour of Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON) on renowned entrepreneur and philanthropist, Ambassador Gilbert Chagoury.
The conferment was confirmed on Monday through a congratulatory message and a copy of the Instrument of Conferment of National Honour shared on X by billionaire businessman, Femi Otedola.
In his message, Otedola congratulated Chagoury, describing the honour as well deserved in recognition of his visionary leadership and far-reaching contributions to national development. He praised Chagoury’s role in landmark projects across the country, noting their impact on job creation and economic growth.
“Congratulations to my role model, dear friend and mentor, Ambassador Gilbert Chagoury, on the well-deserved GCON honour conferred by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” Otedola wrote.
“Your life is a masterclass in vision, discipline and steady excellence. From Banana Island to Eko Atlantic City, your work speaks in landmarks, jobs and lasting impact, inspiring generations of Nigerians to think bigger and act bolder.”
According to the Instrument of Conferment cited, President Tinubu said the national honour was awarded in recognition of Chagoury’s outstanding virtues and in appreciation of his services to Nigeria.
The document stated that the honour was conferred in line with the powers vested in the President under the National Honours Act, granting Chagoury the title, dignity and privileges of Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger.
Chagoury, a prominent figure in Nigeria’s business and philanthropic space, is widely known for his involvement in major real estate and infrastructure developments, as well as his contributions to social and economic causes across the country.
