President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commissioned the Opebi–Mende–Ojota Link Bridge in Lagos, marking a significant step in efforts to ease traffic congestion and improve connectivity across key parts of the state.
The President, who was represented at the event by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, formally inaugurated the project on Wednesday.
The bridge, constructed by Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, is a major infrastructure development undertaken by the Lagos State Government under its THEMES+ agenda. The project reportedly cost several billions of naira, reflecting its scale and strategic importance.
Initiated during the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, construction of the bridge was completed within an accelerated timeline of about 18 to 24 months.
The Opebi–Mende–Ojota Link Bridge is designed to provide alternative routes for motorists navigating densely populated and traffic-prone areas such as Opebi, Allen Avenue and Toyin Street. It directly connects these corridors to Ojota, Maryland and other parts of Ikeja, a development expected to significantly reduce travel time and ease pressure on existing road networks.
Officials at the commissioning highlighted the bridge’s economic value, noting that improved traffic flow would enhance the movement of goods and services across major commercial districts in the state.
The project forms part of a broader infrastructure expansion drive by the Lagos State Government, which has also delivered landmark projects such as the Lekki Deep Sea Port and the Lagos Rail Mass Transit Blue and Red Lines.
Authorities say continued investment in transport infrastructure remains central to transforming Lagos into a modern and globally competitive megacity capable of supporting its rapidly growing population.
